Hundreds of people seeking a fresh start in 2010 flocked to Times Square on Dec. 28. 2009 to put their bad memories from 2009 through the shredder at the third annual Good Riddance Day.

Items included everything from photos of ex-lovers to redundancy letters and newspaper articles chronicling the failings of beloved sports teams.

Roxanne Rodriguez of Manhattan shredded a piece of paper with "Writer’s block" written on it. She intends to buckle down and hoped 2010 would be the year she finally writes a musical.

"This is going to be the year I’m going to be dedicated and focused, and I will get something down on the page every day," she promised.

Good Riddance Day was organized by the Times Square Alliance as part of the buildup to the ball-drop celebration on New Year’s Eve.

For items that could not be shredded the organisers, the Times Square Alliance, provided a sledgehammer and a large waste-container.
